What we are aiming for

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at Level AA. That is the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act, by EN 301 549, and by current guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act, so it is the sensible target regardless of where you are reading from.

How we have built it

• Every text colour has been measured against its background. Body and label text meets or exceeds a contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1, and interface borders meet 3 to 1.
• The whole site can be operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible, and a skip link takes you past the navigation.
• Anchor links and focused elements are offset so they are never hidden behind the sticky header.
• Interactive targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels, and buttons are at least 44 pixels tall.
• Form fields have permanently visible labels. Errors are described in words, listed in a summary at the top of the form, and announced to screen readers rather than shown only in colour.
• Nothing depends on colour alone to be understood, and nothing depends on dragging or a mouse gesture.
• Layout reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling down to a 320 pixel viewport, and text can be enlarged to 200 per cent.
• Animation is subtle by default and switches off entirely when your device is set to reduce motion.
• The site sets no cookies, so there is no banner to trap your keyboard focus.

What we know is not right yet

• The site has been tested with automated contrast measurement, keyboard navigation and reflow checks. It has not yet been tested end to end with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. That test is booked before any wider launch.
• Typefaces are currently served by Google Fonts. If that request fails, the site falls back to system fonts and remains readable, but we are moving to self-hosted files.
• Photography on the Sessions pages is decorative and described briefly. Richer descriptions are planned.
• No part of this site has yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist.
